Recycled Cardboard Boxes

Recycled Cardboard Boxes

Recycled cardboard boxes

The good thing about cardboard boxes is they consist of 70 to 100% recycled pulp and are 100% recyclable in most home waste systems. Strong, sturdy cartons in many different sizes are a great way to freight your goods to your customers. They are an affordable option if you want to go sustainable in your supply chain.

There are wholesale businesses that sell a line of sturdy secondhand boxes as a cheaper alternative to buying brand new cartons. They are sold mostly for house moving, but there are unbranded secondhand boxes that can be used for freight. It’s worth Googling ‘recycled boxes’ in your local area to locate a distributor near you.

Some Interesting facts about paper and cardboard

Planet Ark

  • Paper can be recycled up to eight times – each time the fibres become weaker
  • Cardboard and paper that has reached its recycling limit can be composted
  • Paper and cardboard can get recycled into toilet paper, egg cartons and packaging
  • Since the fibre in cardboard has already been processed, it is one of the easiest materials to recycle
  • Five million tonnes of paper and cardboard are used yearly in Australia
  • Throwing cardboard into the landfill causes it to emit methane into the atmosphere
  • 90% less water, 50% less energy and 90% fewer chemicals are used in the recycling process than when manufactured from trees
  • And the most obvious is recycling paper and cardboard leaves trees to grow in the ground and soak up carbon from the atmosphere

Packaging companies

Packaging manufacturers want to help their customers develop sustainable packing practices with boxes made from recycled materials. The results can be amazing with die-cut boxes that can be custom shaped and branded. Innovative use of recycled boxes can be part of your branding strategy. Customers will appreciate the extra mile you take to reduce and reuse and enable them to recycle your packaging.

Repurposed cardboard boxes

Recycled boxes are part of a new trend in postage and freight void fill. With the use of portable machines, used cardboard boxes can be diverted from landfill and put through a shredder to create inexpensive, sustainable packaging such as void fill and die-cut cardboard alternatives to bubble wrap. Shredded cardboard chips replace Styrofoam packing peanuts and plastic air cushions.

These cardboard shredding machines can also press patterns into cardboard from recycled boxes to make it more flexible and convert into sustainable wrapping and carton lining. When packed correctly your fragile items will be well protected due to its high shock absorption properties.

EcoShred Packaging Shredder

Our Pacmasta EcoShred Packaging Shredder will save your waste cardboard going into landfill and save you money by recycling your used cardboard into flexible die-cut wrapping and lining material. You can forget about space-consuming bubble wrap and packing peanuts and make your own environmentally friendly packaging. The EcoShred is a quiet machine with safety features and plugs into a 10-amp socket.

Recycling cardboard boxes

If your boxes have reached the end of their usefulness and you can’t reuse them for another purpose then recycling is very important. If you have large amounts of cardboard, it should be compacted and baled for collection by a recycling company. Some waste collection companies provide cardboard collection wheelie bins for businesses that produce small amounts or a cage for medium amounts to be collected.

Cardboard for recycling should be kept clean and free of grease, food and other contaminants otherwise it can be composted.

Common Myths About Stretch wrap

Machine-Pre-stretch-Film-orbitwrap

There are many common myths about stretch wrap and here we are going to bust seven of them.

Many pallets and odd-shaped items are wrapped and bundled with stretch wrap to secure loads for vigorous movement and weather protection during transport. Stretch wrap is essential for the safety of goods as they are loaded and unloaded and there are many common mistakes when applying it.

Myth One – Thick wrap is better than thin wrap

Advancements in resin technology have made thinner film wraps stronger with blown octene based pre-stretch wrap. These high-performance stretch wraps have puncture resistance and elastic memory which use up to 50% less material. This allows it to be stretched much further than conventional thicker wraps which are fast becoming a thing of the past.

large-roll-stretch-wrap

Myth two – It is better to save costs with cheaper wraps

Saving costs helps the company dollar and passing on these costs to our customers helps us remain competitive. Cheaper pallet wraps often don’t save in the long run as they have a poorer performance with less flexibility and stretching distance. They can slip and loosen with extensive movement, compromising the integrity of your goods and costing your company more in the long run.

The best way to test whether your cheaper roll of plastic wrap is more cost-effective is to compare how many wraps of a pallet are achievable compared to a more expensive roll. You may find you get double the wrapping rate with the better-quality pallet wrap. Some of the thinner wraps are designed to have the same if not better holding force as their thicker contemporaries, like our Orbitwrap Save machine film 👉

Myth three – Stretch wrap is more fragile and prone to puncture and tearing

Pre-stretch wrap is designed to strain even further with more wrapping distance achieved than non-pre-stretch wraps. Once it is stretched around a pallet or bundle its characteristic is to contract firmly around the load, applying a firm hold.

With the proper pallet wrap machine or hand-held dispenser, pre-stretch wrap is more efficient than conventional stretch wrap.

Myth four – it is better to hand wrap than use a machine

While there are good hand wrapping tools available, machines are more efficient time-wise and save on workplace injuries such as back strain and repetitive strain. Add these two factors together and you have big cost savings. Pallet wrapping machines give a consistent performance compared to hand wrapping.

Myth five – Pallet wrapping machines are unaffordable

The initial outlay of a pallet wrapping machine is a large expense, but if you have a high output assembly line, they can make their cost back several times over within a short amount of time. Pallet wrapping machines deliver many cost-saving benefits:

  • Delivering a consistent application of stretch film
  • Delivering a stable and secure wrap to reduce risk and loss of goods
  • Saves on excessive application of film wrap
  • Frees up employees to do other work
  • Machines can work around the clock without breaks
  • Eliminates workplace injury and down-time from staff due to workplace injury and strain

Mechanical-Brake-Stretch-Wrap-Machine-blue-red-turntable

Myth six – All stretch wraps are universal

Stretch wraps are intended for distinct uses. There are different types of stretch wrap.

    • Cast stretch wrap is made by a cast extrusion method and its holding strength is weaker. So it’s more likely to tear and have less memory than blown film. When it comes off the roll, it is much quieter than blown film which is. It also costs less than blown film.
    • Blown pre-stretch wrap is manufactured with the blown extrusion method which makes it the strong wrap of the two. Its advantage is that it has a higher performance rate with stretch and holding power, tear-resistance and elastic memory. It costs more than cast wrap due to the manufacturing process.
    • Hand stretch is made specifically to be used with handheld dispensers. While you can use blown pre-stretch by hand, it would typically come in a smaller roll for easy handling. This product is more suitable for smaller operations and should be replaced with a pallet wrapping machine as your production line develops higher outputs.
    • Colour stretch films are for specific packaging requirements such as colour coding shipments or dating and stock taking.
    • Ultraviolet film contains UV protection qualities for wrapped loads that are stored outside in the weather. Typically, the building industry would use this film type.

Myth seven – All stretch wrap is bad for the environment

It’s true that plastic wrap causes enormous problems for the environment, but we can reduce waste and our carbon emissions by choosing a better more efficient pallet wrap. Pre-stretched blown octene based wraps increase the wrapping distance by up to 50%, meaning you get much more out of a roll and use less to achieve the same job. You save on carbon by halving the shipping weight of your orders for new rolls. Best of all pallet wrap can be industrially recycled.

Resolve packing issues with water-activated tape

BondTape-stack-of-four-rolls

Water Activated Tape Solutions

Issue One: Carton Sealing Productivity

Create opportunities for staff to increase productivity when sealing cartons for shipment. Tape guns can weigh over a kilo and cause fatigue and carpal tunnel in staff hands and arms. After a period of time packing efficiency will diminish and slow down times when this occurs.

Water-activated tape dispensers can be fully electronic with preset tape dispensing lengths which aid in increasing sealing speed. Only one strip is needed for a superior seal. No more time is wasted by over-application of pressure-sensitive tapes. Improve productivity by up to 21% with BondTape gummed paper tape and a Better Pack water-activated benchtop dispenser.

Issue 2: Tamper Evidence

Plastic tapes don’t properly seal your cartons, they just float on the surface. It’s easy to separate the tape from the cardboard flaps with pressure, allowing a hand to slip into your carton and pinch valuable content.  The result is costly to you in two ways, customer disappointment and mistrust in your brand and the replacement cost of the goods.

With BondTape Green gummed paper tape only one strip of tape is needed to seal the top of your carton. The water activation causes the gum to seep into the inner corrugated layer of your carton and bond in a tamper-evident seal. No amount of pressure will separate the tape from the carton and your pack remains secure and looking professional on delivery.

Issue three: Workplace Safety

Prolonged use of handheld tape guns can cause fatigue, repetitive strain injury and carpal tunnel. This can lead to staff requiring sick leave, costly replacement staff hire, workers compensation and medical expenses.

With Better Pack benchtop water-activated tape dispensers, the awkward handling and weight of tape guns is eliminated. You can choose from manual to fully electronic dispensers for gummed paper tape, depending on the size of your packing operation. The fully electronic Better Packages 555 is for the fast-paced shipping environment and is full endorsed by the independent safety certification company, Underwriters Laboratory. You can preset the length of tape required for the job and the machine will dispense and cut for you.

Best of all only one length of tape is needed to seal your carton.

Issue Four: Waste

Plastic tapes have limits when it comes to packing goods for shipment. Because it is not tamper-proof packers tend to apply several layers of tape for security. Tamper evidence can still be hard to spot. Using up multiple strips of plastic tape is wasteful and costly and makes your carton unattractive and messy looking.

Not only is it a waste of money and materials, the time that is taken to add extra layers of tape is time wasted your staff could be doing other tasks.

By using water-activated gummed paper tape, you will be saving time and money. Only one strip of tape is needed for a tamper-evident seal, and a Better Packages gummed paper tape dispenser takes only seconds to produce a strip of tape.

Because gummed tape becomes part of the carton, it is much easier to recycle the whole container, with no separation of tapes and cardboard needed. Again saving time and reducing waste.

Issue Five: The Elements

Shipping environments can be dusty, humid, cold or hot. They must endure handling, rough treatment, stacking weight, loading and unloading. You need a tape that will stand up to all conditions for the safety of your goods and meet customer satisfaction.

Plastic tapes are known to be weaker than water activated gummed paper tapes. This is because they float on the surface of a cardboard carton and can separate off when pressure is applied. If the carton becomes dusty or slightly damp the plastic tapes are likely to lift off the carton. They will then be unable to be stuck back down.

Water-activated gummed paper tape such as BondTape binds to the inner corrugated layer of the carton and becomes one with the material. No amount of dust or atmospheric conditions will break the paper tape seal. If a thief tries to tamper with the carton it will be evident as the water-activated paper tape holds firm.

Tips on Packaging for eCommerce

ecommerce

Packaging tips for eCommerce

Packing for eCommerce is big business. The rise of customers shopping online is phenomenal. With millions of packages sent through the mail or by freight each day, it is important to get your packaging right from the start. Part of the experience of shopping online is the anticipation of a package that excites our senses and is a pleasure to open.

eCommerce packages can arrive from around the world, travelling long distances to get to our post boxes. The right kind of packaging is tough and able to handle long postage times, is aesthetic and provides brand messaging, is secure but not too hard to open (there is an actual thing called “Wrap Rage”) and environmentally friendly. Adding to the complexity is the need for packaging to be lightweight and affordable to send.

Use our packing tips for eCommerce to get your packaging right from the start.

Tip #1 – Right packaging for the product

You may be a retailer of bargain goods, appealing to the discount hunter. Your packaging may only need to use value for money materials to keep shipping costs down. Or you may sell quality products for the discerning online shopper. Your eCommerce packaging would reflect the expense with some branding perhaps and good quality packaging. This is an opportunity to use packaging to delight your customers if the items you sell warrant the extra effort and expense.

Tip #2 –  Right size packaging

To save on costs packaging needs to be the right size for the objects they encase. Extra packaging adds to the freight costs and too little will result in damage, attract bad reviews and generate costly returns and refunds.

ecommerce-packing-tips

Tip #3 – Environmental packing for eCommerce

Too much packaging and fillers do not impress the environmentally-conscious consumer. Avoid plastic-based tapes on your cartons by choosing natural gummed paper tapes such as BondTape that are much more effective. Try natural Kraft paper wrappings and filler. There are new types of plastic-free bubble wrap made from die-cut Kraft paper that doesn’t need tape to secure the wrap. Biodegradeable post bags are now available and some of them are made from plant cellulose which means your customers can dispose of them in the home composter.

If you have a lot of cardboard waste in your business, you can now obtain a shredder that will shred and crimp your excess cardboard into eco-packaging carton fillers and wraps.

Packaging that can be recycled boosts your business green credentials.

Tip #4 – Speed up your packaging processes

To speed up your packaging invest in good quality tape dispensers that are ergonomically designed. The last thing you want is to develop repetitive strain injury after a long packing session. Choose packaging that is easy and quick to assemble. Flat packed boxes take up little storage space in the warehouse and if they have crash lock bases they take little time to assemble.  If your production line is increasing you may want to invest in a carton sealing machine for more efficiency and to speed up the process.

Tip # 5 – Returnable packaging

Make it easy for your customers to return items by providing reversible packaging or adding an extra seal for cartons. Providing a return address label with prepaid postage will encourage an attempt to return faulty items before giving a bad review. It will also encourage customers to have faith that future purchasing from your business will be a positive experience and that you care about customer satisfaction.

Tip #6 – Branded packaging

Some companies like to build brand awareness by adding their logo and colours to packages and tapes. It gives a good impression and can circumvent the blandness of ordinary packaging. The downside to branded packaging is that it’s more expensive, it takes more time to produce and it can encourage theft. Exterior branding on packaging can alert handlers to the contents. This would create too much risk if you are shipping valuable and appealing goods. One way of getting around this is to print the branding on the inside of the packaging or add leaflets, stickers and logos into the package.

Tip #7 – Tamper proofing

These days you can buy bulk lots of tamper-proof packaging, the most common is poly courier bags. They are strong, white and if tampered with, it becomes evident. If you have cartons to ship, then gummed paper tapes are the most effective tamper-proofing. The gummed paper bonds with the corrugated inner layer of the carton, creating a super seal that stops hands slipping in to help themselves.

Tip #8 – Tune in to eCommerce success

Packaging for eCommerce requires insight into shopper behaviour and their desires coupled with the practicalities of shipping conditions. Choosing easy to pack solutions and understanding the customer unboxing experience will enhance your efficiency and chalk up more points towards brand loyalty.

eCommerce packaging is a marketing opportunity, embodying branding and delivering a positive shopping experience to your customers.

If you can improve your profit margin by getting your eCommerce packaging right and improving your supply chain processes, you are on the road to success in the online shopping universe.

Strapping Types

composite-strapping

The Difference Between Strapping Types

In this article, we are going to look at the difference between the strapping types we supply. Strapping is essentially a flat ribbon that is used as banding for bundling items together to hold them in place for storage and shipment. It is also used to reinforce shipping cartons and pallets.

We will be focusing on PET, composite and woven strapping. Each type is made from different materials and their applications vary in the packaging industry.

Composite Strap

Dura Grip Composite Strap is known as synthetic steel and is the latest development in strapping technology. It is made from high strength polyester thread in a polymer coating. It can be applied in a limitless number of applications and will retain its tension, and if not, it can be re-tensioned.

Composite is light, flexible, contains no sharp edges so it won’t damage your products. It is weather and UV resistant and does not rot or rust. With high shock absorbency, if it stretches during impact, its elastic properties will shrink it back to its original shape. It is also abrasion-resistant and given that the join in any strapping is the weakest point, composite has high joint efficiency. For consistent and strong joining, composite buckles are recommended.

To get the best tension out of your composite strapping you will need a decent hand tensioning tool or for a busy production line, you will need a strapping machine.

composite-strapping

Woven strapping

Dura-Grip Woven strapping is made up of polyester fibres that are woven together in a multidirectional weave. This banding equals the breaking strain of steel strapping but is only 85% of the weight of steel strapping. It is unaffected by extremes of temperature, humidity or chemical substances. It does not rust or rot and is easy to handle, with no sharp edges that may injure during handling or cause damage to products.

Woven strapping is tougher than the alternatives with high cross-directional strength. It has more filaments that are woven together for extra strength with added stiffening agent in the strap to make it rigid enough for all industrial uses.

It also has high shock absorbency and won’t loosen from impact.

Woven strapping uses the same heavy-duty hand tools and tensioners as composite strapping.

Woven-Strapping-19 mm-500m

The differences

Both composite and woven strapping are made of polyester. The difference between composite and woven strapping is that while woven strapping is made of multi-directional woven threads while composite strap is made of vertical fibres coated together by clear polypropylene.  Due to this coating, it is much stiffer than woven strap. This stiffness is easier to feed underneath pallets.

Both the strapping types require different finishes on the buckles with woven strap needing phosphate coated buckles to create more friction. Composite strapping is more likely to fray with phosphate coated buckles and requires galvanised buckles for sealing the strap.

PET Strapping

Dura-Grip PET strapping has unique qualities that make it one of the best materials for securing pallets or unit loads. It is the strongest of the plastic strapping materials and is used as an alternative to steel strapping. With excellent elongation and recovery properties that keep it tight, it has good shock absorption. Though it is as strong as steel, it is not resistant to sharp edges which may cut it during transport.

It retains tension, is super lightweight, weather-resistant, cheap and safe to use. For efficient strapping and unitizing loads it is best applied with heavy-duty hand tools. We also supply battery operated combo tools for efficiency and ergonomics.

PET-strapping

The Benefits of PET Strapping

The benefit of using all three of the above is that they are light-weight with PET strapping being the lightest. The woven and composite strapping is softer without sharp edges compared to PET strapping, causing less workplace injury while handling.

Its always important to check if you are using the right strap, seals and tools for the job. You will want to avoid making costly mistakes and get the right advice before you go ahead and prepare your shipment.

Trends in green packaging

green-packaging

Trends in green packaging

Packaging materials are used every day to transport and store goods to and from manufacture sites by logistics companies. The amount of packaging waste produced every week is astronomical and continually growing as global economies import and export goods and internet shopping is on the rise.

We need packaging products to preserve the integrity of goods, protect hazardous materials and carry branding messages. Packaging has evolved to play a role in product design and presentation, brand marketing and end-user experience.

The trend towards using greener solutions in packaging supplies is on the world agenda. It is a global concern. Manufacturers, packaging supply companies and consumers see the havoc that excess waste is having on the planet and the race is on to reduce the global rubbish problem. Exporting waste including recyclables just sends the problem elsewhere. It’s up to every one of us to focus on the types of packaging we consume every day.

Consumers are increasingly concerned with the environment, sustainability and ethics when it comes to the production of packaging. A new phenomenon is that consumers are choosing to pay more for products that are sourced ethically with a sustainable footprint. Customers want packaging suppliers and companies who produce goods to take more initiative and incorporate recyclables and compostables wherever possible.

For companies and small business who have logistics within their supply chain, it makes economic sense to improve efficiencies and reduce waste. By adopting more efficient tools and automation, productivity increases with a reduction in waste therefore material costs reduce. Establishing recycling stations in the warehouse all helps to reduce company carbon footprint.

The future of green packaging in Australia

In Australia the government has set a sustainable pathway Australia’s 2025 National Packaging Targets that will see four targets achieved by 2025:eco-packaging

  • 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging
  • 70% of plastic packaging is recycled or composted
  • 30% of the average recycled content included in the packaging
  • The phase-out of problematic and unnecessary single-use plastics packaging

This will have a huge effect on packaging supply companies and businesses that use packaging for shipping and storage. Large companies such as Woolworths, Nestle and Coca-Cola Amatil have signalled their support for The National Packaging Target. The backing of large companies will drive innovation and development of alternatives to transition away from harmful single-use plastics and packaging.

Global trends in green packaging

Global packaging has seen traditional plastic and non-recyclables make way for eco-friendly natural materials:

  • Recycled cardboard and paper
  • Biodegradable plastic
  • Corn starch
  • Organics such as seaweed products
  • Eco-friendly fillers such as rumpled Kraft paper and biodegradable packing peanuts

The EU has voted to ban single-use plastics and polystyrene cups by 2021. A European drinks manufacturer with product exported across Europe and Hong Kong has already introduced paper straws to replace plastic straws on its Tetra Pak products. By 2021 it estimates it will have eliminated 100 million plastic straws from the environment.

The Asia Pacific regions are leading the global packaging market by the fact of their sheer dominance in the eCommerce market.

Consumers have been environmentally concerned about rubbish and packaging waste for years. The labels on the packaging are confusing and consumers find it hard to understand which parts of packaging can be recycled and which parts go in the bin.

What global consumers and are now demanding from their packaging:

  • Increased ability to recycle
  • Universal and simple recycling symbols on packaging
  • A closed loop on waste production
  • A move to zero plastics in packaging

Plastic-free packaging is a strong trend driven by consumer demand and is incentivising the development of plant-based plastics, especially in food packaging.

Retailers that don’t use recyclable packaging are also feeling the pressure from consumers.

Companies have taken note and are adopting greener practices when packing their products and according to studies ‘the global green packaging market size will grow by USD 95.28 billion during 2018-2022’ Global Green Packaging Market 2018-2022

Amazon & green packaging amazon-logo-eco-packaging

Amazon has changed their excess packaging ways to a certified frustration-free packaging program. It is designed, apart from being easy to open, to minimise waste by using the right size packaging that is 100% curbside recyclable, with no plastic clamshells or wire ties. This eliminates the confusion of how to separate packaging into recyclable and nonrecyclable parts. Given the growing size of Amazon’s freight market, this is initiative will do something positive for the waste crisis facing the planet.

If the population reverted to buying in local stores rather than online, we would see a huge waste reduction and a boost to local economies.

The big issue that we can’t ignore is that recyclable packaging is currently either stockpiling or going to landfill until the technology and investment arrive to cope with closing the loop on waste reduction.

Sustainability Matters Magazine

Great news! An article we wrote on Environmental Packaging Solutions has be published by Sustainability Matters Magazine.

perforated-paper-recycle-symbol-landscape-behind

With the exponential rise of eCommerce including freight, small online retailers and large companies are using more and more packaging to safely ship good out to customers. The more packaging we use, the bigger our waste problem.

The good news is that packaging companies are producing innovative and eco friendly packaging products that are bio degradable, recyclable and use less material for better wrapping and securing freight.

You can read our article in Sustainability Matters here.

100% Recyclable Orbitwrap

large-roll-stretch-wrap

Addressing the recycling crisis through the latest packaging technology with Orbitwrap.

Our country is in a recycling crisis after China stopped accepting our recycling waste exports in January 2019. With plastics being a huge waste problem in Australia, it makes sense to minimise the effect with Orbitwrap, especially when it comes to pallet wrapping. Single-use plastics continue to be the biggest problem in the recycling industry with less than half ending up recycled and the rest staying in landfill or ending up in our oceans.

Australian Industry leaders endorsed by the government have set the following targets:

  • 100% of all Australia’s packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025 or earlier
  • 70% of Australia’s plastic packaging will be recycled or composted by 2025
  • 30% average recycled content will be included across all packaging by 2025
  • Problematic and unnecessary single-use plastic packaging will be phased out through design, innovation or introduction of alternatives

Australian Government Department of the Environment and Energy, media release 25 June 2019

Pallet wrapping is a major contributor to plastic waste volumes in landfill and at sea. Plastic pallet wrapping is used to secure millions of loads daily to prevent shifting and damage of goods during transport. It also helps to keep the loads neat and stable for easy stacking. It has become a necessary product for companies who transport goods locally and overseas.

Orbitwrap Save

One solution to this problem is called Orbitwrap Save, a new product that reduces the amount of plastic needed to wrap a pallet. Orbitwrap Save is an innovative blown octene based pre stretched wrap with high remaining elasticity that stretches further than other stretch wraps, whether applied mechanically or by hand from a handheld dispenser. You get that extra length and cost savings by using it over conventional pallet wrap, especially if you apply it from a built for purpose pallet wrapping machine.

orbotwrap-roll-recyclableorbotwrap-roll-of-stretch-wrap-recyclable orbotwrap

Orbitwrap Save can be used like all other stretch wraps in the same friction brake wrapping machines. You get double the amount of wrap on a roll compared to conventional wraps and it is a better choice for the environment due to the fact it takes less than half the volume of conventional stretch wrap to achieve a neat and high holding force.

Orbitwrap Save is a high-performance wrap that is puncture resistant, high in elasticity and does not neck down which reduces the number of revolutions needed to wrap a pallet, resulting in far less plastic needed and the wrapping taking less time.

Check out our YouTube video showing Orbitwrap Save in action on a turntable pallet wrapping machine below.

The good thing about Orbitwrap Save is that it is 100% recyclable. Most councils don’t want to see it in your recycling bin though. If your business has a lot of pallet wrap waste, there are companies out there that can be contracted to pick up and recycle your used soft plastics.

Eco Friendly Carton Sealing Tape: BondTape

Eco Friendly Carton Sealing Tape

With the exponential rise of online shopping and eCommerce, increasing volumes of packaging waste are entering land fill each day. We all have a responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint, so it makes sense to choose a natural and recyclable solution Carton Sealing Tape such as Bond Tape.

Our reinforced gummed paper tape, called Bond Tape is our most ecofriendly carton sealing taping method. Bond Tape is made from a natural Kraft paper carrier and starch adhesive, making it 100% biodegradable and 100% recyclable, unlike cellophane, polypropylene and polyester tapes. Kraft paper is porous, so when the gum adhesive in Bond Tape is water activated it absorbs into the cardboard carton, bonding both tape and carton together in a tight seal. Bond Tape provides a superior seal compared to other pressure sensitive tapes that only stick to the surface.

BondTape-stack-of-four-rolls

With Bond Tape, recycling your cartons is easy as you don’t have to remove the tape, you simply flatten the carton, tape and all, and put it in the recycling bin. It takes time to separate plastic tapes from cartons to make them recycle ready, and time is money.

Bond Tape creates a strong bond and unlike standard tapes, is tamper resistant. If tampering has occurred it is clearly visible, in turn discouraging theft of items in the carton. Using Bond Tape eliminates adhesive failure and stands up to the rigours of freight handling and transit conditions. Because it is the most durable tape available, dusty environments, extreme cold and heat does not lift the bond between carton and tape.

Another appealing feature of Bond Tape in the industrial packaging sector is it can be customised so company logos and marketing messages can be printed on the tape, increasing brand awareness and corporate respectability, while also eliminating the need for costly carton printing.

It is by far more user friendly than standard tapes as the adhesive in Bond Tape binds immediately to cardboard, even if it is low grade, previously used or not perfectly flat. Only one strip of tape is needed, eliminating the need to add multiple bands of tape to reinforce the seal, saving time, cost and resources.

Bond Tape requires the use of a water activated tape dispenser which is more ergonomic than using a handheld tape gun. Repetitive use of a tape gun can aggravate carpal tunnel syndrome, reducing the productivity of your staff and increase workplace sick leave. Water activated tape dispensers remain stationary at a workstation while in use and can be set to dispense a specific length of tape reducing the amount of repetitive manual labour.
